Pregnancy Week by Week

A run down of BBJ's coming into this world! From Week 22 onwards.

Week 40!

BBJ now weighs about 3.4kg (7.5lb) and has a crown to rump length is about 37-38cm while total length is about 48cm.  Well the time has come.  We are very excited and now a little anxious about meeting BBJ. We are getting regular phone calls from everyone just checking to see if we are still a 2x1 family (AJ, BJ and the 1 being Wally).  We will be phoning, sms'ing and emailing everyone as soon as we have the news!

For dinner the last 2 nights we have had very hot curries hoping that this will entice BBJ to come into the world.  We will see tomorrow if this has worked.  If not BJ is threatening to put castor oil in AJ's breakfast cereal!?!

Keep an eye on the website as we will be posting pictures of BBJ as soon as BJ can possibly get to an internet connection.

Tip of the Week: If you want to use a particular labour position, massage, relaxation techniques or hypnotherapy to relieve labour pain, discuss it with your doctor or midwife at one of your antenatal visits.

Week 39!

BBJ now weighs about 3.25kg (7lb) and has a crown to rump length is the same as last week, about 36cm while total length is also about the same at 48cm.  ONLY 1 weeks to go (or much  less we hope).  We are still very excited about meeting BBJ.  We saw Dr Lewis again this week and he said everything is going smashingly.  He expects to see us before the end of the week is out.  We are very excited.

Keep an eye on the website as we will be posting pictures of BBJ as soon as BJ can possibly get to an internet connection.

When AJ was asked what to put in this weeks updated, she was overheard saying "there is only 5 more shopping days left" assuming he comes on his due date.  I love her priorities.

Tip of the Week: Don't take tags off gifts until after your baby is born. You may need to exchange the gift if its size, colour or 'sex' isn't correct.

Week 38!

BBJ now weighs about 3.1kg (6.8lb) and has a crown to rump length is the same as last week, about 35cm while total length is also about the same at 47cm.  ONLY 2 weeks to go (or less we hope).  We are very excited about meeting BBJ.  AJ is doing excellently and we saw Dr Lewis again this week.  He said everything is going great. We have one more appointment coming up this week (if we make it that far) and Dr Lewis will have a bit of suss around how ready we are.  We are very excited about getting a bit more information on how close we really are.

AJ's has been enjoying being home although getting a little bored.  The weather in Perth this week has been very hot with a 31 on Friday, which means BJ finds AJ home in one of his singlets, missing Melbourne.

The nursery is now pretty much sported out and just waiting for BBJ, so here is a few pictures of his new home!

Tip of the Week: If your doctor suspects your baby is in a breach position, he or she may order an ultrasound scan to confirm it.  It helps identify how the baby is lying in your uterus.

Week 37!

BBJ now weighs about 3kg (6.5lb) and has a crown to rump length of about 35cm while total length is about 47cm.  ONLY 3 weeks to go (or there abouts).  AJ is doing very well and we went and saw Dr Lewis this week.  He said everything is going great and expects BBJ to go full term.  When asked "how big do you think he will be?" he replied about average, about 7-8lb.  So we don't thinks he knows and is just guessing.  We will just have to wait and see.

We go and see Dr Lewis every week know which is pretty exciting with not that long to go. This has also been AJ's first week at home from work.  Generally she is finding it quite boring, which means BJ has dinner ready for him when he gets home from work (real bummer).  AJ has been heading to the shops quite a bit but fortunately the boredom is still there so she doesn't stay long enough to buy anything (real bummer once again!).

AJ has also had a busy week washing all of BBJ's clothes, and I do mean ALLLLLL of his clothes.

We have just bought a new digital camera so we are ready to take photos of BBJ when we meet him and also take a few home movies.  BJ has a pool going at work on the due date and weight of BBJ, and if a bunch of computer nerds know anything about babies, he is likely to be born about 1 week early and be about 7.5lbs.

Tip of the Week: If you plan to breastfeed, gently express a little colostrum each day and invest in a good nursing bra.  Familiarise yourself with handling and caring for your breast (BJ offered to help here but got turned down!).

Week 36!

BBJ now weighs about 2.75kg and has a crown to rump length of about 34cm while total length is about 46cm.  ONLY 4 weeks to go (or there abouts).  AJ has had a bit of a sore back this week which has made it hard for her breathing, but all in all she is doing great.

By popular demand we have a couple of photos of the gorgeous mother to be, out the back in her togs.

The weather here at the moment is perfect so we though it would be time for some more stunning shots!

Sleep this week has been a distant reality at times for the family, we believe it is obviously practice for when BBJ does not want to sleep.  We are looking forward to the next 4 weeks.

Tip of the Week: Be prepared for delivery with bags packed.  Carry your personal pregnancy notes with you when you go out.  Keep a telephone list, with numbers in order of priority, by the phone and carry a copy in your purse..

Week 35!

BBJ now weighs about 2.5kg and has a crown to rump length of about 33cm while total length is about 45cm.  ONLY 5 weeks to go (or there abouts).  AJ is doing fantastic and BBJ continues his kicking, wriggling and hiccups.

Sleep is becoming more and more difficult for AJ (and therefore BJ) but fortunately AJ was paying attention to tip of the week from Week 31 and has taken all her rings off as her little fingers are becoming not so little.  All in all it has been a busy but great week and we are looking forward to meeting BBJ.

Note: Actual baby may vary from picture above!

Tip of the Week: Maternity bras are designed to provide extra support to your growing breasts (Yeah baby!).  You may feel more comfortable wearing one during the day and at night while you sleep.

Week 34!

BBJ now weighs about 2.25kg and has a crown to rump length of about 32cm while total length is about 44cm.  ONLY 6 weeks to go (or there abouts).  AJ is doing great except for burning her finger last night when cooking peas.  BBJ is kicking and wriggling heaps and we think he may even be getting hiccups.

AJ is still having some problems sleeping, mainly from being uncomfortable.  BJ is still left with about 1/10 of the bed after AJ, BBJ and about 1 dozen pillows fill the bed.  BJ is still holding up OK.

Note: Actual wife may vary from picture above!

Tip of the Week: A strip of paper, tape or bondage (oops I mean bandage) can help cover a sensitive belly-button.

Week 33!

BBJ now weighs about 2kg and has a crown to rump length of about 30cm while total length is about 43cm.  ONLY 7 weeks to go (or there abouts).  How quickly time flys.  We went and saw Dr Lewis this week and once again AJ is doing fantastic.  AJ is going for another regular blood test and we see Dr Lewis again in 2 weeks.  AJ is starting to have problems sleeping, mainly from being uncomfortable and the occasional midnight cramps in her feet or legs.  BJ is left with about 1/10 of the bed after AJ, BBJ and about 1 dozen pillows fill the bed.  BJ is holding up OK.

Unfortuantly the picture in the books have gotten quite boring so this one will have to do.

Tip of the Week: Don't stop eating or start skipping meals if your weight increases normally.  Both you and your baby need the calories and nutrition you receive from a healthy diet..

Week 32!

BBJ now weighs about 1.8kg and has a crown to rump length of about 29cm while total length is about 42cm.

Tip of the Week: Your requirements for calories, protein, vitamins and minerals increase if you carry more than one baby.  You'll need to eat about 300 calories a day more per baby than for a normal pregnancy..

Week 31!

BBJ now weighs about 1.6kg and has a crown to rump length of about 28cm while total length is about 40cm.

Tip of the Week: Wearing rings and watches can cause circulation problems.  Sometime a ring becomes so tight on a pregnant woman's finger that it must be cut off by a jeweller.  You might not want to wear rings if swelling occurs.  I've known some pregnant women who purchased inexpensive rings in larger sizes to wear during pregnancy.

Week 30!

BBJ now weighs about 1.4kg and has a crown to rump length of about 27cm while total length is about 38cm.  This is something like what BBJ is like in AJ's tum.

Tip of the Week: Good posture can help relieve lower-back stress and eliminate some back discomfort.

Week 29!

BBJ now weighs about 1.25kg and has a crown to rump length of about 26cm while total length is about 37cm.  Physio and ante-natal class have been interesting and it is amazing the differences between all the people attending.  We now know all the breathing, THREAT, and Pant Pant Blow.  There is another but I forget.  We went and saw Dr Lewis today and he is very pleased with the progress.  Much to AJ's relief he has said that BBJ is not a big baby nor a particularly small baby, at which AJ took a big sigh!.  BJ and Wally are very proud of AJ for doing such a good job!

Tip of the Week: Most women find their shoe size increases by half a size in the third trimester.  You may need larger shoes for comfort..

Week 28!

BBJ now weighs about 1.1kg and has a crown to rump length of about 25cm while total length is about 36cm.  BBJ should have grown some hair. We had our first physio and ante-natal class this week which was pretty exciting and very informative.  We are now regularly doing our pelvic floor muscle exercises.

Tip of the Week: Some obstetricians prescribe Anti-D for Rhesus negative mothers at this stage.  This keeps you from becoming sensitised if your baby's blood mixes with yours.  The Anti-D protects against sensitisation until time of delivery.  If you are anxious, ask your doctor or midwife about local practices.

Week 27!

BBJ now weighs about 1kg and has a crown to rump length of about 24cm while total length is about 34cm.  BBJ can now open his eyes and he is probably winking at the sound of his dads voice. Our breathing and birth video classes start next week so watch this space for a review of all the gory action..

AJ went and saw Dr Lewis and every thing is spectacular except for a little iron shortage (pity it is not ironing shortage!).  BBJ's head is now down low and he is squirming away as usual.

Tip of the Week: Childbirth education classes are not just for couples.  Classes are often offered for single mothers or for pregnant women whose partners cannot come to classes.  Ask your midwife or the National Childbirth Trust about classes for you.

Week 26!

BBJ now weighs about 910 grams and has a crown to rump length of about 23cm.  BBJs heartbeat is between 120 and 160 beats a minute.

We have had a pretty quiet week but as usual Ang is doing great.  BBJ is moving lots and has gone from kicks to big swaying movements.

Tip of the Week: Lying on your side (your left side is best) when you rest provides the best circulation to your baby.  You may not experience as much swelling if you rest on your left side during the day..

Week 25!

BBJ now weighs about 680 grams and has a crown to rump length of about 22cm.

Ang is doing fantastic as usual and Dr Lewis has told Ang that BBJ is sitting sideways in her tummy, which according to Ang "makes me look big!"  BBJ is also growing strong and Ang is eating for 2 according to the scales.

Week 25 was a big week around the house as we have finally set up BBJ's room.  Check out the nursery for some photos.

Tip of the Week: Pregnancy can be a time of communication and personal growth with your partner.  Listen when he talks.  Let him know he is very important source of emotional support for you..

Week 24!

BBJ now weighs about 530 grams and has a crown to rump length of about 21cm.  BBJ is filling out and face and body is very much like a new born baby except smaller.

Ang is doing fantastic as usual and BBJ is very very active, especially whenever we get in the car.  Wally is getting jealous.  We picked up our Pram, Cot and also bought a porta cot and car seat this week.

Tip of the Week: Overeating and eating before going to bed at night are two major causes of heartburn.  Easting five or six small, nutritious meals a day instead of three large ones may make you feel better.

Week 23!

BBJ now weighs about 455 grams and has a crown to rump length of about 20cm.  BBJ is getting more plump, but his skin is still fairly wrinkled because of lack of subcutaneous fat (like we know what that means!).  At this stage, BBJ's face and body assume more of the appearance of a baby at birth.  BBJ looks something like this (according to the book I scanned the picture out of!)

Ang is doing just as great as last week and BBJ has been kicking and punching even more than last week.  Ang went to see the obstetrician last week while Brett was in bed bleeding from the mouth. The Doctor was quoted as saying "Whatever you are doing, don't change a thing!".  Ang has put on 3kg's since the last appointment which was 6 weeks ago.  Everything is going smashingly.

Tip of the Week: Keep your consumption of sodium to 3 grams (3000mg) or less a day.  This may help you reduce fluid retention.

TOP

Week 22!

BBJ now weighs about 350 grams and has a crown to rump length of about 19cm.  BBJ now has eyelids and eyebrows and fingernails. BBJ looks something like this (according to the book I scanned the picture out of!)

Ang is doing really great and feeling fantastic.  BBJ is kicking and punching almost 24hours a day and as the placenta (bait for the future) is at the back, these movement are quite visible and a real surprise for Brett and Wally.

Tip of the Week: Drink extra fluids (water is best) throughout pregnancy to help your body keep up with the increase in blood volume.  You'll know you're drinking enough fluid when your urine looks like almost-clear water.
